The single-family house, located on a plot with a total area of 2,318 m² on Rua Caminho da Igreja, Mogofores – São Lourenço do Bairro in Anadia, represents a synthesis between contemporary principles of habitability and a conceptual heritage deeply influenced by the modern architecture of the “Bauhaus” period. Its clear volumetric composition, defined by orthogonal lines and the articulation of horizontal and vertical planes, evokes the Bauhaus pursuit of essential form, where each element exists according to its function and constructive expression.
Organized over two floors with a total gross area of 281 m², the house is structured around an exterior patio with a swimming pool, reinforcing the spatial continuity between interior and exterior — one of the core ideas of classical modernism, which advocated the dissolution of rigid boundaries between spaces. The generous glazed surfaces that run along the entire ground floor create a constant visual connection with the surrounding landscape and materialize the Bauhaus concept of transparency and spatial fluidity, where natural light is treated as an architectural material.
The combination of exposed concrete with natural wood cladding reflects the pursuit of an honest and functional aesthetic, emphasizing the authenticity of materials. As Mies van der Rohe advocated, “less is more” is embodied in a refined formal language in which the absence of ornament highlights constructive quality and precision of detail. The green roofs and low-maintenance landscape approach reinforce the project’s sustainable ethos, aligning with the modern vision of architecture that is integrated into its setting, technologically efficient, and socially responsible.
The result is a dwelling that, although unmistakably contemporary, retrieves the fundamental principles of Bauhaus — functionality, formal clarity, landscape integration, and the authentic expression of materials — reinterpreting them in light of today’s needs for comfort, sustainability, and connection with nature.
