Villa Macedo, Cascais

The housing intervention area comprises a plot with a total area of 342.00 sqm and a construction area of 188.55 sqm, situated in the parish of São Domingos de Rana in Cascais. The area is known for its single-family homes with two floors and outdoor spaces.

The design of the house is influenced by the modern movement architectural style, popular in Portugal during the 1950s and 1960s of the last century. The design is simple and with straight lines, large glazed areas, displaced volumes, and shading structures.

The project aims to create an architecture where form follows function, with the exterior of the building reflecting the interior and vice versa. The design includes two volumes separated by glazed walls, with a flowerbed for an olive tree. The 2nd floor has a 2m projection to the north to allow for more bedroom space, with a shading pergola to the south to balance the projecting volume.

The interior layout complies with legal setbacks and land-use permits. The 1st floor features a Living Room facing south and a kitchen facing East/North, with sliding doors opening to the pool area and garden. A patio and protected area under the 2nd floor volume provide additional outdoor space. The 2nd floor includes a vestibule leading to 3 bedrooms, with the suite facing south and a balcony covered by a pergola. Additional bedrooms and a social bathroom are located to the north and west.
