Rehabilitation of Two Ruins in Santarém
Our recent architectural rehabilitation project of two ruins in the Santarém region involves the restoration and adaptation of two highly degraded structures, with the goal of converting them into housing while preserving their historical and heritage value. At the same time, contemporary solutions were introduced to ensure functionality and comfort.
The project included several essential phases:
Survey and Diagnosis – Assessment of the condition of the ruins, including structural analysis, existing materials, and identification of elements to be preserved or replaced.
Ruin 1 – Tertúlia
Ruin 2 – Barracão
Program Definition – Establishing the project objectives, such as adapting the new function of both structures for residential use.
Intervention Proposal – Tertúlia: Restoration of the ruin with an extension. The white, pure volume stands out from the ruin.
Intervention Proposal – Barracão: Restoration of the ruin following the same approach.
Architectural Project – Development of the rehabilitation proposal, combining traditional and modern techniques while respecting the original identity of the building and ensuring its modernity and sustainability.
Coordination with Engineering Specialties – Integration of electrical, plumbing, thermal, and other infrastructure systems, ensuring energy efficiency and comfort.

Licensing and Execution – Approval of the projects by the relevant authorities and execution of the work in accordance with the established principles.
